| Eden and her crew of women traveled for 15 years to reach their new home only to find the area next to it occupied by a colony of males. She doesn’t want her mission to establish a new colony to fail; so she, along with some of her crew, decides to meet with the men. Eden feels immediate attraction to Baen, who seems to be a leader of the males. They seem friendly enough, but Eden can’t be sure she is not putting her crew in danger. However, her cautiousness leads to misunderstandings of their different cultures, especially since they have to have a language translator to communicate with each other.
Ms. O’Connor has quite a talent for giving the reader enough information to make her fantasy stories seem real and to leave you wanting to read more. Lots of information was given to explain the ship; their different colonies and customs; as well as the physical characteristics of the two races. I would like to read more stories set in this world. She built the sexual tension in The Ninth Orb slowly, but when the relationship was consummated nothing was held back. Warning: this book contains group sex; however, it is portrayed as a custom of Baen’s family, and in my opinion adds to the story’s premise. I very highly recommend this book and will eagerly look forward to more books by Ms. O’Connor.
