Rose Lerma paints a sad picture of a family that has lost their sense of togetherness, compassion, and appreciation for one another. As we travel through the year in which Olivia tries to let them see for themselves what life is like without her at their beck and call it's an awakening for many of us. It's quite a reminder of how far a simple thank you can go to make life better. Excellent characterizations and dialogue pique memories for those of us who have had similar wordless confrontations in our lives. It's a great roadmap for how to get where we want to be. Ms. Lerma never pictures the journey as easy or simple. Olivia's own imperfections are pointed out in a unique way. This is a wonderful book for any time of year.
