Mikayla Mitchell has just lost her grandmother and has had to sell the family home. She decides to uproot herself, leaving her closest friends behind while she goes to California to try for an internship at an advertising agency. Her plan is to learn all she can and then return home to start her own business. Of course things don’t go smoothly and her car breaks down in the middle of the desert. With no cellular service available, Mikayla does the smart thing and stays in her car hoping for someone to drive by. Luckily for her, the first person to come by is Jesse Daulton who just happens to have family in the area.

Love Leaves No One Behind was one of those rare “different” reads for me even though it doesn’t have any of the paranormal/fantasy/scifi elements I like so much. What it does have is a very sweet story of a retired Army Ranger and a young woman who has just lost her last family member and sets her life on a course she never could have dreamed of.

At first, I thought Mikayla was going to be one of those heroine’s who was too sweet and innocent to be believed. She soon showed me I was wrong. Mikayla may be sweet but she has a quiet strength about her that makes her no one’s doormat. Jesse is one of those quiet heroes who really doesn’t like to talk about his experiences. He’s also dealing with life altering circumstances that make him hesitate about getting involved with anyone. Unfortunately, the abilities and knowledge from those experiences are needed when Mikayla’s best friend and then Mikayla herself, end up in danger. Thankfully, all ends well. Kudos to Ms. Pemberton on her first novel. I hope she has more to come.
