Kira Gunn couldn't remember anything of her childhood. She couldn't sleep more than forty-five minutes without having nightmares that caused trauma induced seizures. The only truth she knew was Vincent Carson. Since he was sixteen and she was ten, he had cared for her every need. When she started Kira Gunn Industries he was beside her, helping her every step of the way, protecting her and keeping her image from being published. One evening two muggers held them up at gunpoint. Vincent had them both dispatched to the ground unconscious before she'd seen him move. She was a little shaken by Vincent's actions, but not nearly as shaken as Vincent. He asked her if she remembered, "Make like a mole." Her vision darkened and her ears began to ring. She'd always believed that had been part of a nightmare. She realized lots of things she'd thought were nightmares were very real. Nothing would ever be the same again.

This book was much longer and darker than what I usually read, but it was also more fascinating. It's one of the most powerful love and mystery/suspense stories I'll probably ever read. When I started it, I intended to read for a few minutes to fall asleep, but the first time I looked up from the book it was already five a.m. The story is quietly and subtly a thrilling roller coaster ride of suspense and intrigue as Vincent tried to keep Kira safe after she kicked him out of her life but kept turning up to seduce him. When the danger Vincent had prepared for all these years materialized, Kira was finally able to see through her confusion to realize she didn't care about anything as long as she and Vincent were together. If only it weren't too late. The super-secret organization Vincent had stolen her from thirteen years ago when she'd become a loose end wouldn't stop until they were both dead. Vincent's mentor from the agency claimed he was Kira's uncle and offered aid, but could they trust him? When he shot Vincent and set off the alarm, was he really just trying to help? Ms. Wiesner proves herself an amazing plot master. The story line and delivery are exquisite. You don't want to miss this one.
