They say bad things come in threes but life threatens to make more trouble come to Lissa Williams. She's lost her job and her fiancé. Then her best friend is carjacked and thrown from a moving vehicle. Gina's life is hanging by a thread while Lissa decides to try to track down the carjackers. Lissa and Nathaniel 'Duke' O'Keefe enjoy a special one night stand while she's trying to get her life back together. Little did she know she'd find him working as a tow truck driver in the same town she chooses to track the people who hurt her friend. He's also undercover. As they both try to keep secrets they're drawn again to one another.

Cat Shaffer pens a unique suspense story filled with characters that are easy to like. Small town life is well depicted in the fictional Oslo, West Virginia. It gets funny at times as Lissa and Duke work so hard to keep secrets from one another. When they face one another, each with a loaded gun, it's easy to hold our breath waiting to see if either of these stubborn people will give in. Whether or not they can work out their difficulties is in question throughout. The townspeople are often witty and fun to read about.

It's frustrating that the book is marred by more than a few problems with missing words and phrases. It's difficult to follow at times when the enjoyment of the tale being told is slowed down trying to figure out what the author is trying to say. It could be a great tale, is still worth reading if you're able to overlook the problems.
