Lillian Temple loved horses and contributed to Second Chance Farm, a horse rehabilitation program run by Hope Farrier. The farm is in sad financial shape. Lillian is dying on cancer. She wants her son Devlin to run her company, TES. And she wants to fund Hope's project. She'd also like to see Devlin settle down with a nice girl like Hope.

Devlin wants his mother's position as CEO. And Hope piques his interest far more than the model types he's been involved with before.

But Devlin's cousin Ray is after the company leadership as well. Someone is sabotaging Hope's farm and the TES finances. Is it Ray? Or someone else?

Author Toussaint plots a pretty good mystery, but her characters, especially the secondary ones, could use work. Hope's sister Paige is a college girl without a boyfriend of her own. She wants to get rid of Devlin at first, then changes her mind. The reader is left wondering why. This reader also puzzled over the villain's ability to alter the TES books and handle a chainsaw.

The road to romance is necessarily rocky, with the lovers doubting themselves and their motives. Hope is a strong-willed, un-girly girl who "cleans up really nice." It's impossible not to root for her, both professionally and personally. Toussaint has given us a likable heroine and an unusual setting.
