The year is 1175 and King Henry rules. Situations are tense as King Henry and Queen Eleanor quarrel over the Scots and Queen Eleanor remains a prisoner in Salisbury. Hugo Fitzwater wants the favor of both rulers and that is what makes choosing a spouse for both his daughters difficult. Roger of Harelby comes up with a solution after hearing the details of their dowries. He will take Edythe for his bride, finding her golden beauty quite desirable. Eleanor, named after her godmother the queen, is the opposite of her sister. She has raven colored hair and her eyes are brown instead of the startling blue of her sister's. Roger has a son who he describes as educated and gentle in his way. But as Eleanor is soon to find out, Stian is nothing as his father described. To make matters worse Stian desires Edythe and is jealous of his father and resents having to marry this woman that he describes as a talking mouse. Eleanor the mouse and Stian the wolf set out on an adventure to find love and understanding.

Nothing Else Matters is a wonderful medieval tale filled with thrilling action and passionate romance. The characters are richly developed and their personalities are strong and affect the story's outcome. Eleanor has always been compared to her sister and she finds herself lacking. In this story she will come to recognize the beauty and strength others see. Stian is shy and resents that all his life is played out in front of his father's people. He will have to recognize the strength and respect that the people see in him. These two people that consider themselves the shadow of someone more important must stand up and take charge of their lives. This includes their marriage that starts off with many misunderstandings and jealousy. When the chemistry between them is finally recognized, it blazes brightly throughout the story. Eleanor is given a hands-on education in wifely duties that she finds quite enjoyable. The romance becomes passionate and plays out in creative and explicit details. Exciting and realistically choreographed, the scenes are easily visualized. Emotionally stirring, this story is filled with brilliant descriptions of scenes that make the story come to life. The dialogue flows smoothly and conveys the thoughts and emotions if the characters. Susan Sizemore has written a historical romance that is sure to be enjoyed for its action and passion and I recommend it highly for those that enjoy historical romances.
