Abigail Anderson is super logical. She left her old job as an actuarial accountant and is now a newspaper fact checker. Her co-workers talked her into a Bahamas vacation and it is definitely not a mai-tai on the beach experience. (Oddly, she is not traveling with her friends.)

Abigail is very proper, much different from the laid back Bear Bearuden. This is his first tropical flight after years as an Alaskan bush pilot. He has confidence he can handle the storm -- highly misplaced confidence, as it turns out.

Pilot Bear crashes the two seat Cessna and they are unwelcome visitors on a beautiful and dangerous private island.

Farnsworth Hildebrand, the most successful stock market investor in history, is out to bring down the auto industry. That's where the nuclear threat of the title comes in. He vows nothing will stop him or his thugs. He is a psychopath with a hunger for money and power. He has stocked the island with exotic animals. But when Abigail and Bear discover his secrets, he's more than willing to hunt them!

Servants Matumbo and Rosita share romance and danger as well. Matumbo has seen the mysterious silver box in the basement and suffers at his master's hand. I actually found their relationship more compelling than the one between Abigail and Bear.

None of the main characters rang true for me, and I couldn't help note the parallels with The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. There is adventure and danger, but I never sensed a true connection between Bear and Abby.
