Obedience is about Princess Meela of the planet Bano who was groomed at birth to wed a Prince from Nelot, a neighboring planet. By this arranged marriage to one of the princes of Nelot, she would ensure her people of the protection of the most powerful army in the system.

Princess Meela, at sixteen years old, and her parents, were visited by the Queen of Nelot so that the queen could decide if Meela was worthy of one of her sons. The queen decided that Meela was worthy, and the queen, being a sorceress, immediately cast a spell of obedience on her and the only one who could remove the spell would be her husband.
