Matilda Cummings became a contracted mail order bride in place of her sister, Melinda. When she arrived in Dodge City, she found out that her intended, Dawson Chandler, did not want a wife; his younger brother, Duncan, had tricked him into signing the contract. This caused some problems, but since Duncan was aware Matilda was not the one who was supposed to be here, he demanded she honor the contract. Since Dawson had refused to meet Matilda (Maddie), she was forced to travel several days with her future brother-in-law to get to the ranch where Dawson was waiting.

Maddie was very well endowed, and sported a curvy body; the picture the men had of Melinda showed a very thin woman. Dawson was so excited when he first saw her that he had to force himself to think about his reasons for not wanting to marry. Marry, they do. The legal obligation, plus his increasing lust for Maddie, demanded that he marry her as soon as the preacher could come. The couple is so very different; Maddie is very spontaneous and free spirited; Dawson is one who talks everything to death, and believes in spanking as a form of punishment for all the various predicaments she gets into. Throughout the entire book, Ms. Casper entertains readers with the antics of Maddie and the trouble she faces with her husband.

I certainly enjoyed this book. The amusement of the characters carries the reader through all the activities of the ranch and settling into rural life. The sex is explicit, but not overwhelming. I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy historical romance.
