| Chris is a claims adjuster for an independent firm.
She works for and with two close friends from her
schooldays, Will and his sister Amanda. When she was
a child, her father left and divorced her mother. He
failed to maintain contact with the family and later
died without resolving the relationship. Later, in
high school, she seriously dated Johnny, who later
eloped with an married another woman. Naturally her
view of relationships with the opposite sex are a
little screwed up. Lately, she has been seeing this
really good looking man all over town, but embarrassed
at the feelings he inspired, she ran away like a fool.
Sent by Will to investigate a fire at a tire store,
she finds the "Mystery Man" is the owner. He has been
trying to meet her, and insists on taking her to
lunch. It seems that he has decided that she is the
woman he has been looking for, and is not shy in
telling her so. A woman with her history is naturally
cautious, especially since Johnny has hunted her down
and is looking to pick up where they left off, in
spite of her having no feelings for him anymore. A
major disaster in Alabama adds to the drama.
This is a really nice story. Duff is very persistent in his pursuit of his love at first sight, and Chris is overly cautious, but gradually won over. The surrounding characters are also very good with the exception of the old love, Johnny, he just didn't seem necessary to the plot, the author's story has more than enough going for it without him. This is a very enjoyable read.
