| After years of living with the Clevengers, Shauna Joyce was determined to do whatever it took to adopt Sarabeth when the Orphan Train came through. Shauna knew that meant she must be married and she’d just been jilted—left standing at the altar when Darrell Gaines just didn’t show up. Her prospects were almost non existent because the townsfolk thought she was “with child.”
Kane McKenna, the Irish boss of the bridge-building crew, had an agenda of his own and it did not include marriage and children. He had spent most of his life taking care of his mother’s eight children. When one sister drowned, he left home and never looked back. He certainly would not tie himself down with this half-crazed woman with her harebrained ideas. This was not my first ‘Ciara Gold’ novel and, let me assure you, it will not be my last. I love her writing style. Her plot, in this case, was well developed, interwoven with strong characters and a myriad of supporting cast members who only made the main individuals look that much better. In this story, Ms. Gold has given us a look in the life of a super-alpha female whose determination to succeed never wavered regardless of the circumstances. The escapades of this strong-minded woman were so intricately written it was impossible to not love Shauna and hope for love and happiness to find her. Her counterpart was an Irishman, Kane McKenna, whose mannerisms made him a stand-out, perfect compliment for Shauna. He obviously was well mannered and hated to be rude and ugly but he was challenged in true Gold style with more than most men could possibly handle. This book was an emotional one for me. I have to admit that I laughed out loud, but I also shed several tears. And the ending—not what I was expecting. I recommend that you read this book. It is well worth your time and you will certainly be glad you took the time. Expect the unexpected, and see for yourself what a Ciara Gold book is like. You will not be disappointed.
