It Happened One Hurricane

Hurricane Ike...what was a newly-transplanted resident to do? Amber Kensington had moved from up north and knew almost no one except the ones she worked with and a couple of people she had met in church. She had been left almost homeless at her home place when her aunt and uncle took over her guardianship after the death of her parents. Not only didn’t they want her around, but her fiancé had broken up with her. These circumstances just compounded her fear of trusting people.

Alex Clarke saw Amber in the parking lot where he lived. Her car had quit running and she had no way to outrun the storm. Alex had secrets of his own but he didn’t allow it to keep him from reaching out to help others. He made arrangements to take Amber with him on the bus the next morning to safety at another church several hours away from their home church.

Carla Rossi has, once again, written an inspirational story about how opposites can be attracted to each other. She gave spiritual comments which were wonderfully written but didn’t preach. This light-hearted, fast-paced story gave readers insight into how fear and abandonment issues could be handled effectively. The main characters were so true to life. The secondary characters were realistic and brought both humor and emotional feelings into the storyline.

I recommend this as a great quick read—perfect for that pick-me-up when readers need to fill a space with hope and humor.
