Josephine King’s husband was a Texas Ranger. During an encounter with outlaws, he was shot and presumed dead. According to Lieutenant Stephen Bailey, either he was dead or had deserted. Jo was certain he was alive though it had been more than two years. She opened a shop in town, Josephine’s A Touch of Lace, where she employed several other women to help with her creations. She was uncomfortable because Lieutenant Bailey kept pursuing her. He insisted that she give up on Dalton’s return and allow him to court her.

Dalton King was severely injured and taken in by some strangers. He was there for months. At first he didn’t know who he was. He was delirious and what he did remember, he couldn’t place things. Then his fellow Ranger, Stephen, visited him. He offered to contact Jo and see if she would accept him back—considering how he now looked. He returned and told Dalton that Jo wanted nothing to do with him and that she was acting as if she was already single. Dalton decided to see for himself.

Ms. Celia Yeary has certainly lived up to her reputation. Her characters were dynamic and so endearing I cannot imagine anyone not falling in love with the 1890s Austin, Texas area. The plot was amazing and, as I expected, she detailed the emotional ups and downs of these main stars of her book. She has a way of grabbing attention from page one and not allowing my mind to stray until the very last one.

There were myriad complementary characters that intensified the storyline. The town felt like home and her friendships evolved into major stars in her manuscript. She developed the relationships, especially between the husband and wife, so that I had to pull for them to have a HEA.

If this first book in the series is any indication of what’s to come, I foresee this becoming another major seller for Ms. Yeary. You will indeed become, if not already, a fan of hers and will put her on your “must read” list and she is definitely on mine. Kudos to you, Ms. Yeary!
