Katti is going to her aunt's home in Hawaii to collect her things, read the diary her aunt left behind, and for a week's vacation. She hadn't expect her aunt's death, and she definitely doesn't expect the run-around she receives from her aunt's executors. They send her to a hotel, and to make up for Katti's displeasure at that, they give her a ticket to the show of Cesar, an internationally famous singer. Katti's been a big fan of the gorgeous man for years, and is thrilled when he picks her to dance while his nephew sings.

But the next day, she finds out that the beach house was rented out...and to none other than Cesar and his male relatives. It more than explains the lawyers' actions.

One Year Past Perfect is one of those really good contemporary romances that doesn't feature a younger woman. Katti was only in her mid-thirties, but, to me, she wasn't reliant on everything that is dramatized about being that age. She'd divorced, with good reason, but didn't seem to dwell on that too much. She seemed completely able to hold her on with Cesar's brother-in-law, Victor, and was utterly down-to-earth, which is a definite plus when I look at heroines I enjoy. Cesar himself was much more than just a gorgeous singer. I thought he was mature and more considerate than the average hero, without losing an ounce of his masculinity. Their romance wasn't a quick thing, but developed bit by bit, and not once did I feel it was forced, or boring (as some romances that develop slowly can be). Overall, One Year Past Perfect is a very good contemporary romance that I enjoyed reading.
