The Haunting of Sarah Dyson by Shara Jones - Sarah is a history professor, but on a leave of absence to research a local legend. A local man and his two associates allegedly murdered the River Man, a Revenue agent. The local historical society hopes to use the ghost and Sarah’s research article to raise funds. At a friend’s Halloween party, she meets a mysterious man, Robert, the descendant of the murderer. Her notes are stolen and she is threatened. She doesn’t want to suspect Robert, but who else would want to sabotage her research?

A Nice Cup of Tea by Sheila Holloway - Katherine, a writer, is restoring a beautiful old Victorian house. She hears the sound of a child’s laughter and swears that the house is haunted. An herbal tea sends her back to the 1930’s where she meets the child haunting her house. At least her contractor Sam doesn’t think she is insane.

Haunted by Laura Hamby - Alisanne has always been in love with Remy Beauvais, but his cruelty caused her to move from New Orleans to Milwaukee. After the death of her father, she comes home again to a very different Remy. She is afraid to trust in his new attitude towards her. Remy has also inherited the old mansion that fascinated her as a child. The ghost of Adelie Rousseau, who cursed all the male descendants of her murdering faithless husband, haunts it. Remy has inherited the mansion, and Alisanne is hearing voices threatening him and saying that he will never be faithful. Is Alisanne willing to risk her happiness again?

The theme of this collection is haunted houses and ghosts making it a great choice for Halloween or anytime you need a good ghost story. These are very well written ghost stories with well-defined characters and involving plots. My favorite was Ms. Hamby’s Haunted, but the other two stories ran a very close second. I definitely recommend this collection.
