Starling has been kidnapped from her world, sold at an auction and just found out that she's the pet of some alien king. While King Bekion is very tall and very sexy, Starling is horrified by her position. Although pampered, she is nothing but a pet, seen only as an amusing animal. Even worse, the King's sadistic brother wants her. King Bekion never wanted a human pet but he has one now. However, Starling is nothing like he expected. He can't be falling for her, sex with pets is deviant and wrong. But it doesn't seem to matter to him and Starling is not only beautiful, she's smart and funny too. Although Bekion could lose his kingdom, Starling may prove to be to much of a temptation.

This book is bit different than most alien kidnap stories. I've actually been waiting for this one since Ms. Renquist began posting unedited chapters in her newsletter some time ago. She has built an entire world, complete with culture and history. The imagery is vivid and she creates a lush setting for her characters. This world is populated by interesting and well written characters. Bekion and Starling are joined by several secondary characters who really add to the story. Webber, in particular, is very memorable. There's humor, action and romance in this story. The whole 'pet' thing is just so well written. The concept can be too repulsive to enjoy if not done right. The book is from Ellora's Cave Blush Imprint but don't take that to mean that there isn't any steamy sex. The author has penned some really sensual and sexy scenes; they just don't dominate the story. I also have to mention that these beautiful and steamy love scenes are written entirely without the use of graphic language. I've become accustomed to the liberal use of these words in the genres I enjoy; but I didn't miss them. Ms. Renquist's talent is clear in the her obvious exclusion of them; and you'll still need some ice water with this one. My one complaint is with the ending; it felt rushed and, personally, I didn't feel that it fit the characters well. However, it didn't really effect my overall opinion of this wonderful story. Highly recommended and very enjoyable.
