Most men would enjoy arresting the woman who stood them up at the altar but Slade Montgomery isn't most men. New Orleans Assistant DA Marisa Cooper finds the body of Nickolai Assimov in her garage. While the police are investigating a bomb goes off and it looks like someone wants to kill her as well. Slade is also investigating the deaths of Assimov's relatives and he's convinced that whoever killed Nickolai also killed his siblings. Now as Marisa and Slade slip from compromised safe house to safe house their old feelings are reawakened. Can they survive and have a second chance at a love they once let pass them by?

This was an edge of your seat mystery full of expectancy and apprehension. Marisa and Slade are complex characters thrust into an elaborate and dangerous situation. I admire Marisa for keeping so calm in the face of such adversity. I cannot say I actually liked her and in fact I found myself wondering how Slade could forgive her. It's not that she came off as horrible just a little self-centered for me. Slade is not your typical alpha male hero keeping his emotions hidden from the reader and I found I liked him even more for understanding him better. I'm not usually a fan of love stories that reunite a couple but this was a unique situation. The setting plays a solid part in the story without overshadowing the main components; the suspense and the relationship. This was a definite page-turner with the perfect amount of tension of the sexual and psychological kind. The plot is good and the pace fluctuates at the right intervals. I would really like to see Cole get his own story. If you like your mysteries edgy with a romantic flair then this one is for you. This is a good solid read that I gladly recommend.
