Isaac Rhodes is one tough, intimidating man when he wants to be. Getting kicked off the police force for being gay, he lands a job with Nate Washington as a private investigator. The only problem is Wash doesn’t know Rhodes is gay. What Rhodes discovers, when working with Wash, is an unrequited attraction that just won’t go away. Isaac eventually is forced to come out to his work partner. But Nate Washington has a few secrets of his own, ones that may change Rhodes’ life for good. Or Wash’s secrets could possibly ruin Rhodes’ career, as well as his personal life.

This funny, light-hearted romance will melt even the toughest critic. This is my first experience reading Katie Allen’s work and it will not be my last. Private Dicks has that element of suspense. Rhodes and Wash are both privately hired detectives looking for a missing boy. This turns out to be much more complicated than they expect it to be. This element mixed with a bit of comedy, and a lot of romance makes for a well blended story. Wash is laugh-out-loud funny at times with his quick wit and catchy phrasing. Rhodes has a tough outer shell but is really a hopeless romantic at heart, making him an enduring, lovable character. Rhodes mostly plays along with Wash, making the two main characters perfect partners, in more ways that one. Both characters are well-rounded and likeable. They interaction with other, secondary, characters is, at times, funny and upholds the suspense all at the same time. One of the best things about Private Dicks is Katie Allen’s Dialogue, which comes off as completely natural and believable. Private Dicks is well-worth reading for any amount. Katie Allen is now one of my favorite authors. After reading Private Dicks I am definitely going to read more by this author.
