| Shannon's husband was killed in Iraq nearly a year ago. She decides to take their toddler and go to Vermont and spend the holidays with his family so that she won't feel so alone. While in Vermont, she runs into his older brother Ryan, the man who unbeknownst to her, was with her husband David when he died in Iraq.
Ryan has returned home for the first time in years. He made a promise to his brother, while he lay dying. He promised he would watch over David's wife and child. But guilt over being in love with his brother's wife keeps him from fulfilling it. When Ryan and Shannon come together the sparks begin to fly. But can Ryan overcome his guilt and find love with Shannon? This was a lovely story. The plot was well written and flowed smoothly and maybe a little too quickly, it felt like the book ended too soon for me. I really liked how the author did not sugar-coat the characters' feelings and just make everything perfect and give you a fairy tale. I think my favorite character was Ryan. He was flawed yet someone with whom you could relate to because his thoughts and emotions were so well written and that made him more lifelike. Shannon on the other hand is a person who is true to herself. She knows that she needs to move on no matter how much she loved her husband and she accepts her attraction to Ryan with very little internal conflict, but yet doesn't come off as unlikeable. I also enjoyed how the author wrote the interaction between the extended family. It made me wish I had a large family. For those that like plenty hot and sensual sex in your romances, you will enjoy this because there was plenty of heat generated between Ryan and Shannon. I will gladly recommend this story to anyone who likes a great love story and doesn't mind shedding a tear here or there.
