Jenna Hennessy is in love. A little baby girl has been left at her doorstep and Jenna, a woman who never expected to be a mother, finally has the chance to shower all the love in her heart on someone else. Too bad the townsfolk don't see it that way. Since the baby is part Indian, Jenna knows that it will be tough to raise her, that some people may look down their noses at baby Brianna, but Jenna is sure she can take care of her just fine anyway, without anyone's help. Clint McKinnely doesn't see it that way however.

Clint has been attracted for a long time to the voluptuous and caring Jenna. They have a past that involves her despicable dead husband, and Clint has been looking out for her ever since. When Clint finds out about Brianna, he knows that the only way to protect the two is to marry Jenna, an idea that holds strong appeal for him. He has been searching for a wife, but no woman seems to measure up to his secret ideal, Jenna, so when he discovers that he has a chance to take care of her forever, he grabs it. Despite her protests that she won't make him a proper wife, Clint and Jenna marry and embark on a life together. It's hard though because Jenna carries so many demons from her previous marriage. She wants to trust Clint, but she remembers the cruel treatment she received from her dead husband, and so Jenna shrinks away from him. But Clint isn't about to let any ghost ruin his marriage. He knows it will take time and effort, but he will woo Jenna with everything in him. But will the past prove too much for Jenna? Will she be safe when there's still someone out there who wants to hurt her?

Promises Prevail is an outstanding western historical romance! From the moment readers meets Jenna and Clint, they will be enthralled in their love story. Both of these people have been hurt before and are loath to trust others, but there's something about love that can win over the most unwilling of hearts. This story is very emotional and at times, very sad when the reader finds out just what Jenna has suffered, but there is much happiness also as Jenna becomes comfortable with her roles as a new wife and mother. Jenna is a woman any reader can respect because she has endured so much and still goes on, in the hopes that there is something better for her. Clint is an equally strong hero who will take any risks to protect his new family. Of course, any story can't succeed without a strong plot and Sarah McCarty definitely provides that. This book is a guaranteed page-turner.
