| Pulse is the fourth novel in the Mate Marks series by Kate Hill. This story begins as a sizzling yet tragic romance occurring during the Roman Empire's quest for power. Kheb is a Kushite princess sent by her mother, the Queen, to obtain a truce with the Romans in hopes of avoiding war. Instead she finds her mate in a Roman soldier. Marc Claudius is a dedicated solider who never thought he would leave his home or fight his countryman for a woman. But a burning attraction between them cannot wait. These lovers are forced to honor fate's demands. When Kheb is killed, Marc must wait for her reincarnation. The story picks up in modern times where Marc watches over his mate until she can accept him. Marc's modern mate feels drawn to him but confused about this strong attraction. Can a love this passionate survive centuries?
This is a wonderful love story. The characters are well developed and have many challenges to overcome. Kheb is a strong woman who is direct and has high expectations. Marc is a proud and determined man whose strong will collides with Kheb's. The story line is well written and flows at a good pace. In many ways this is two stories or two sides to the same coin. The love scenes are very sensual and romantic. Marc is a dream lover. Their love making is combustible yet so giving. The sexual scenes are strong and the couple's emotions develop into a wonderful relationship. The dialogue is well written. I really enjoyed and highly recommend this story. Mate Marks 4: Pulse stands as a complete story. After reading this novel I will be purchasing the other stories in this series because the author is a very talented and gifted writer. I look forward to reading more of her stories.
