Returning from the Napoleonic Wars in the Peninsula, Callum Craythorne found he could not mingle with his childhood friends or neighbors not even his sweetheart Sophie Ingram. Shunning everyone Callum went to London in the hopes that it would distract him from memories of war but Society was too bright and shallow. So Callum returns to the Lake District to live quietly with his demons at home, only to collapse in a snowstorm before we can reach the beckoning light of a cottage on his childhood playground.

Sophie had been confused and hurt by Callum's aloof behavior even though she concealed her emotions behind a cool grace she learned from her mother. Nursing a broken heart, Sophie treasures chances to retreat by herself. Leading to Sophie finding herself caught in a tiny hut when the weather turned ugly. Emerging into the fierce winds for more wood, Sophie spots a dark object in the snow a few feet from the door only to find it is her beloved Callum.

In a fevered dream, Callum fantasizes that he seduces Sophie. Still in love with Callum, Sophie decides to take the only chance she might have to relive the love they once shared. But when a new day begins, will their hearts discover their love is more than a fantasy?

Restrained Hearts is a wonderfully enthralling regency novella. The characters are engrossing and well developed and the setting is vivid amidst a short and solid plot. Fans of historical erotica will revel in the delicious interplay between these two appealing lovers in this enchanting love story.
