| After the murder of her husband, Aaron, and the loss of her unborn child, Anna Sorenson walked away from it all, determined to move forward without Aaron. Her husband left behind plenty of secrets, causing Anna to question the man she married. But life doesn’t move on as smoothly as she had hoped. With one phone call from her sister, Anna is forced to remember the old trauma, and now she is being hunted.
FBI Agent John Delaney not only buried his partner a year ago, he also had to watch the woman he loved fall apart and move away. What he and Aaron did in the past should have been laid to rest with Aaron’s death, but someone, the real killer, is determined to resurrect the past and his sights are set on Anna. A series of murders with the same MO as the killer on death row used, John is forced to re-open the case from a year ago and find the real killer. John will do anything in his power to protect the woman he still loves, even if it means revealing secrets that are better off buried. Tension like a live wire hums in the background of Root of All Evil. With plenty of twists and turns, Mary Eason captures the reader’s attention and doesn’t let go until the very end. I empathized with both characters as each had old wounds that were ripped open once again. Anna pain over her losses and the secrets kept from her, while John was tormented by the secrets he and Aaron kept from everyone. He has also suffered over the loss of the woman he loves and faces losing her forever if he isn’t careful. The sexual tension sizzles when Anna and John are together, each drawn to the other like they are. Mary Eason has made a fan of this reader with her well plotted story, peppered with interesting characters and vivid sense of place.
