Fay Maverick was an 18-year-old virgin when she finally coaxed Brett into “being” with her. That same night there was a robbery and another girl, jealous because of them together, lied and said she saw Brett steal the money. His father disowned him and he disappeared for seven years. Then when Mr. Donovan died, he left the farm to his only son—without ever forgiving him. When Brett reappeared in Black Creek, Kansas after so many years, Fay’s life would forever be changed.

The feud which smouldered between the Mavericks and Donovan’s escalated when Brett returned to town. Fay’s four brothers didn’t like him, but her oldest had always hated Brett. That family fight went from bad to worse. Brett didn’t intend to stay in town. He was going to fix up the farm and sell it. Then he would leave again. That was, until he reacquainted himself with Fay.

Ms. Jan Bowles has, once again, proven her ability to grab and hold my attention with her writing skills. She has a way of weaving both main and secondary characters into a plot. The sensuality of her book was intense and superbly written. The believability of her characters was such that I could visualize being involved in the story myself. The sexual activity was part of the book not just thrown in to have bedroom scenes. It was a serious part of the manuscript.

I highly recommend this book to you. You will be able to see why Ms. Bowles has landed on my must-read list. I seek out anything she writes. She gives her readers something to remember long after the final scene.
