A Model T sunk in the middle of a lake with no road even close? Hauk Ludvikson is determined to find out how that could have happened. In spite of problems in the past with women on board ship he hires Star Fisher as an underwater investigator to replace a crew member who got hurt. There's something about the sunken car or Star that seems to have villains haunting them every step of the way. With the expertise of Riley and his computer they start to track down a series of crimes related to the car and the family who owned it. Star may not be who she thinks she is.

J.S. Marlo has woven an excellent suspense and romance. We get some edge of our seat scenarios after things blow up or people are kidnapped or some other weird thing happens. The villains are bumbling idiots but if they keep trying they might just kill someone. Dusty is inept as the action half of the duo but he has no problem devising more and more ways to hurt people. He and his partner in crime just won't give up until they're forced to. Hauk, Jimmy and others are determined to make sure the perps wreaking havoc with their ship, equipment and Star.

Star deserves to finally be surrounded by some men who respect her for her expertise other than her Uncle Jimmy or friend Dylan Carr. Most of the men in her life have seen only the scar on her face forgetting there's a human being attached to it. Hauk learns to trust and respect her even before he falls in love with her. The author does a great job with their personalities. Kyle distrusts her but seems to come around after she saves his life.

There are many excellent interactions within the tale that keep it moving. It's one of those stories where we know the villains early on but that doesn't interfere with our enjoyment of the chase or the evolution of the romance between Hauk and Star. I found this a great bit of writing that kept me interested from first page to last.
