Once again, Mace and Daniel are back in the fourth installment of the the Wolfman series. These are not really stand alone stories and should be read in order to really understand what's going on. Having survived a challenge by Tat and an attack by rabids, the pack is now dealing with new problems. One group of rabids is organized and very dangerous, new pack members are jockeying for position and Daniel is dealing with some of his own issues.

I think this is the most intense book in the series. Daniel is dealing with past and present trauma and having a difficult time. Mace is concerned for the safety of his pack as well as Daniel. Old friends and new acquaintances round out a riveting story. As before, Ms. Black's use of dialogue softens some difficult subjects and provides comic relief. Daniel and Mace are still scorching hot but there is thread of desperation as well as a much stronger emotional connection this time. There's plenty of action and a few surprises. The ending is touching and just makes both characters more endearing. You'll laugh and cry with this one and still be wanting more.
