| As a child Kate Martin found herself dreaming of pyramids and ancient Egypt. She had no idea she'd ever find herself walking through the land with a man destined to be Pharaoh. Setti was put into a state of suspended animation by a priest ruled by his evil half sister for over three thousand years. When Kate discovers the tomb where he's been imprisoned he comes to life and the two are sent back in time to right the wrongs of an ancient world.
Wend Petzler writes a fascinating and suspenseful tale of politics and life in ancient Egypt. The characters, both good and villainous are well done with some twists and turns in the personality they present that keep us guessing about who is really going to help or harm. Even the gods of ancient times aren't as evil as they may seem to be. They're make up one of the better parts of the book as the three brothers Ra, Sobek and Anubis decide the fate of their subjects. Kate's fascination with the land and comparisons to the world she's seen through the eyes of a modern day archeologist are well done. Both she and Setti are the kind of stars in the story that make us adore them throughout the book for their fair play with those around them no matter what the circumstances. The evil Sobeknefru doesn't seem to care who she hurts to put herself on a pedestal. As a reader I kept hoping the author would find an appropriately nasty way to give her the comeuppance she deserved. With the help of the gods she managed to do just that. This is a great time travel romance as we go back to an ancient land many of us know something about from history.
