In the historical romance novel Secrets by Erin Grace, Isabelle is a woman widowed on her wedding night. Just days after the event, an unknown brother to her late husband arrives claiming to be the one who set it all up and demanding payment in flesh. Luckily a good friend invites her to Scotland where she escapes to start over. Only the trip is filled with wolves dressed as gentlemen with their own devious plans in mind for Isabelle. Once in Scotland she finds love in an unlikely place but must battle with the secrets in both their pasts and lies spread by others. With kidnappings, sword duels, evil men, love filled sex scenes, and more stubbornness then anyone should have, Isabelle must find a way to finally have her own happy ending.

I’m not usually a fan of historical novels but found it very hard to put this one down. Erin Grace’s characters move you with their depth of emotion. They live such rich lives and have such history attached to them that you become emotionally attached to them and their story. Everyone from the good friends of the family to the locals in town with their quaint dialogue is attractive. You look at the bad guys in the story and can’t help but get angry at them, but at the same time when the hero’s own pride and stubbornness get in the way you want to smack him too. You’re rooting for Isabelle to finally know love and be happy through it all. Erin Grace as an author does an amazing job at storytelling though I felt that the intimacy and sex scenes though sensual were a bit too short and maybe lacking a wow factor. Even with that said Secrets was a well written and a story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
