After the Protarian government released a biological weapon, the lentavirus, on the population of Stilux and Protia, it caused the victims' genetic make up to mutate. The mutants went underground, creating a new faction. Mal Ton, leader of the Stilux whose world was almost destroyed by the war, and Fane, leader of the mutant underground, join together to find and rescue the human earth women kidnapped by the Protorian government.

Larelle, a soldier, is one of the human women. Unknown to her and the others with her, they've been infected with the virus and not given the vaccine. Larelle is determined not to give in but once rescued she has no choice if she wants to live. Mal Ton helps her and together a bond grows faster, deeper than either of them expected. Finding and rescuing the other women no doubt infected by the virus is imperative.

Shifter is book Two of Aubrey's Sensual Captivity series. Though it can be read as a stand alone, there is continuity from the first book, Seducer, that allows the reader more background and a greater understanding of the dynamics, situations, and the characters. Mal Ton is a leader through and through. When he meets Larelle though, he's met his match. Larelle is a soldier and a fighter but underneath is a woman frightened until she has greater understanding of the situation she's in. Then determination sets in to find the other women. Many facets to this story make it an engrossing page-turner. I was totally amazed and bowled over by the obvious research and the time that must have been spent in writing this series as normally I'm not one for reading futuristic novels. Often I'm lost within all the details, but in this case it amazed me, entertained me, and added to my overall enjoyment. I'm eager to read the next novel in this marvelous continuity series. I hope the wait isn't too long.
