“A Woman’s Offering,” Sheri Gilmore: Anna’s husband married her to acquire her father’s money and his family business. After a difficult delivery, the physician announced she should not attempt conception again, and after the loss of the child, she went into a four-year funk. An encounter with Tez Opoche, an incarnation of the Aztec god Tezcatlipocha, gives her new hope. He sees her as a reminder of a woman he once loved long ago, and offers to give her what she wants and needs most: a child.

“Match Game: Ghost Style,” Cynnara Tregarth: Shari, a psychic, is holding a “Dumb Supper” with several of her friends to commemorate the loss of their good friend Manny. During the holiday celebration of Dios de los Muertes, or Day of the Dead, these meals are remembrances of loved ones who have passed over within the past year. This time though, Manny is determined to push Shari and his best friend Ben toward each other, which Manny wishes had been accomplished long ago.

“Moon: Vida, Amor, Y La Luna,” Jeigh Lynn: Sarah is introduced to her cousin’s fiancée and her family, in of all places, a cemetery celebration. The Hernandez family members are werewolves, but then so are most of Sarah’s kin. Sarah meets best friends Emilio and Michael, who have been in love for years but have consistently denied it, preferring to carry on as best friends. Now that Sarah is in the picture, however, her presence will catalyze drastic changes for all three of them.

Sheri Gilmore demonstrates a keen grasp of Aztec lore and legend and insight into woman’s nature and a mother’s longing for the return of her child in “A Woman’s Offering.” Cynnara Tregarth delivers a fascinating romance couched in Mexican tradition, with the original spin of a ghostly matchmaker. Jeigh Lynn provides a searing m/m/f tale with a wonderful Hispanic and paranormal background, and a deep look into the nature of love vs. the pride that keeps lovers apart. The Spirited Anthology offers something for everyone, and will keep readers reading, thinking, and looking out for the nearest ice bucket.
