Cascade Preston is a successful stained-glass artist. She believes that she has her life under control. That is, until she is duped into designing windows for a church renovation in her hometown. She swore she would never forgive the people who turned their backs on her family when they desperately needed help. Dan McQuay is project manager for the St. Luke's renovation job. Cascade's reluctance is costing him time and money that he can't afford. Both hiding from difficult pasts and lingering guilt, Dan and Cascade are two lost souls who drawn to each other.

This is the first book in the new Sterling Lakes series. It is a wonderful story about the lasting effects of our pasts and the power of forgiveness. Neither Dan nor Cascade is aware of the protective shield they have built around themselves. Cascade must come to terms with an entire town before she can move on. Dan never stays in one place very long so he doesn't have to have ties to anyone. The story is about their journey of faith and the opening of their hearts and lives to others. I found some the dialogue in the book to be a little stilted and artificial but it doesn't lessen the overall quality of the story. The author allows the reader to experience Dan and Cascade's private thoughts and prayers. We feel their sorrow and disappointment as well as their hope. Their journey isn't comfortable or quick. They find insight and courage from those around them. From an elderly priest to women in prison ministry to old friends, God sends people to help the two on their path. Ms. Andrews allows us to see their missteps and weaknesses. The characters, like us, are flawed and face countless doubts along their walk of faith. In the end, Cascade and Dan must rely on God's infinite grace to become whole and find peace and, perhaps, lasting love. The story is truly a joyful, uplifting read that clearly illustrates the freedom found in act of of forgiveness. I look forward to the next story in the series.
