| Commander Villam Elding was a loyal military officer. His life was
neat and orderly. When he's kidnapped to be used as a pawn in plan
against a man he admires, Villam crashes the ship. Only two men
survive. Luke was hired to do a job. The money would help his people.
Raised on a harsh planet forgotten by the empire, Luke's life has been
devoid of any real human contact. When the simple kidnapping goes
wrong, Luke finds himself and his would-be victim the only ones left
alive. The two former foes must rely on each other if they are to
survive on a hostile planet. With no hope of rescue, Villam and Luke
have to find a way to forge some kind of relationship. Emotions run
high as attraction and distrust vie for dominance. If they can survive
the planet's dangers, and each other, they may both find something
worth fighting for.
I love scifi and I love romance but the two are seldom combined successfully. However, that does appear to be changing. I've read some really well done scifi/romance lately and this is certainly one of them. The story is methodically revealed to us. The details and observations that the author includes puts the reader inside each man's head. Villam and Luke have a complex and, at times, antagonistic relationship. I like that there are no easy fixes. Heck, there's almost no touching until midway through the story. That works for this read as little else would be believable. Ms. Jaydon builds us world and then keeps her characters true to it. An unfolding conspiracy, hostile animal lifeforms and yet another kidnapping add an element of suspense to the story. The are some poignant moments between Villam and Luke as each deals with his own issues. From their wary acceptance of each other to their culminating moment, the author weaves a story of a passion that rather than explodes; smolders until it consumes. Although I found the beginning a bit slow, I was completely captivated by the book. If you're looking a character driven, creative scifi love story, Storms and Stars won't disappoint.
