Allison Peters has always been the "good" girl; her younger sister, Tilly, had left the small town of Wilbur for the larger Toronto; Ally stayed and pleased her Mother. She worked for her Father's business; she was engaged to a safe, stable man, Sam Ryan, the small town's only lawyer. Ironically, on the brink of her upcoming wedding, Ally had just one situation she had to correct.

When Ally wanted to go to the prom with Randy Gallagher, her Mother was displeased; she told her she would not go, but she slipped around and went anyway. That night, at Lake Sherwood, she lost her virginity and became known as Ally "sure-she-would." They did not become a couple! Randy, son of prominent parents in the small town, was the idol of the town for his accomplishments both on and off the football field; the small newspaper, The Wilbur Crier, carried stories of his endeavors almost every week.

Ally went to Toronto and attended an auction to benefit the Children's Hospital; Randy was the last bachelor auctioned off; Ally won! She took Randy back to Lake Sherwood. What happened after that is the wonderfully told quick tale by Peggy Hunter. Her characters were beautifully told and made me feel as if I was in the middle of this story. The story was not totally predictable; I like that I find myself surprised when reading a great story that seems to have an inevitable ending.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it to everyone!
