| PI Trevor Sloane tracks down grifter Victoria Denton in order to accept the consequences of a con she and her brother had pulled on his unsuspecting uncle years earlier. When the couple arrive in Granite Springs they find Trevor's aunt dead. Vicky's brother is gone; but he's not the only thing missing, Helen's prized automobile, the contents of her safe and petty cash box, as well as her jewelry and the family silver are unaccounted for as well. Vicky is positive her brother is not a killer so she and Trevor unite and investigate the surprisingly long list of potential suspects. Can they find the real killer before becoming the next victims and can Vicky convince Trevor to overlook her past, trust that she has changed and aim for a future together?
This was a fabulous romantic suspense. There is nothing I like more then when my mysteries come complete with concrete characters and a plausible puzzle and that is just what this fast and fun story offers. Vicky is so genuine and I love how complicated she is; sneaky one minute and feeling guilty the next. Trevor is as complex as the leading lady and he is far from perfect himself. I am grateful that we got to see his interactions with Rosa, as I found him to be autocratic with her in some instances and then sincerely concerned with her welfare at other. I appreciated the fact that we got to see into both their pasts as it went a long way in explaining their present and future. I wish we could have gotten to meet Aunt Helen as I think she would have been fascinating to witness in action. I enjoyed the fact that there were so many suspects to choose from and that each of them had a valid motive. I think from all the wonderful characters in this fantastic story my favorite was Rod. He was so self-centered and yet he provided me with so much entertainment. I'm still chuckling over some of the nasty exchanges he and his sister had. This author has definitely earned a spot on my must-read list. I highly recommend this entertaining story.
