| Brielle Austin has just opened a bakery left to her by her grandmother. She’s struggling with the fact that she often feels her magic takes control of her life, especially her love life. Cadon Sterling is head of the Shandai, a clan of shape shifters. He shows Brielle a love like she’s never known without the power of magic, except the kind they build between them.
Colette Denee has woven a powerful tale. So many people in this book have heroic characters. They have built their lives through epic battles, friendships, dedication to doing the right thing and expecting others to do the same. Ms. Denee shows us how even the most powerful can be brought to their knees by love when the love of their life is just as strong in their own way. Cadon and Brielle both feel lust but is that enough to get such strong willed individuals to learn to love? Meghi and Cadon have been friends, lovers, comrades in arms. Can their relationship stand the addition of a human to the mix, one who Cadon loves, one Meghi shuns because she isn‘t one of them? Can Brielle accept the relationship between the two for what it is without letting jealousy overpower her? Ms. Denee answers all of the questions and more while building mystery into this already excellent tale. One of the clan of Shandai is a traitor, selling out to the Vampyrs who want to destroy them along with their gods. The author does an exceptional job of weaving love, lust, friendship, honor and betrayal into a story I couldn’t put down. When it seems to be wrapping up she adds another dimension, another trial that opens another door before she pulls it all together and makes it even better. This is really a great read.
