| Hedda Valen was from Norway. She was middle-aged and a self-sufficient woman. She owned her own company and was wealthy. What she lacked was an honest and committed relationship.
She took matters into her hands one day and placed an ad on the Internet. She had several replies but not one that really interested her, until she received an email from Michael Henderson. Michael Henderson was an English teacher from Iceland. He was never married and had several relationships though none lasting very long. They both shared common interests and kept in touch through emails. Until they wanted more. They wanted more than just a picture to go with the emails. They wanted to hear a voice. They exchanged numbers and Hedda took the first step and called him. Both were nervous about the first call and even though not much was discussed they called again and again. It was time for the next step, to see each other in person. Was this a good idea? After all, they were still complete strangers. People could make up stories online; they could get away with it. People usually didn’t take the next step and meet. Did they? Was it what they really wanted? Would they be disappointed if they did? The Minds Eye is a story that is easy to see how it happens, you can understand why her characters do what they do and you can feel their emotions as the story unfolds. Hilde Aardal shows both Hedda and Michael’s side of the story and blends the two together nicely.
