| Cedric Edgard, Troyes de Pellerin, and Dane Melbourne are not called the Devils of Bath only due to their extraordinary beauty. They enjoy the sensual aspects of life and from the moment Cedric sees Mariotte Sabier, he knows that they are meant to introduce all these aspects to her.
The premise was very intriguing but it fell flat. The pace of the story was rushed with no true action or movement in the plot or development of the characters. The story's plot was disjointed and awkward to read and follow. Particularly bothersome was the manner in which it split the focus of the story between the romance of some of the main characters, a mystery involving two of the main male characters, and the extracurricular activities of the third male character. It was not the addition of either of these elements which was problematic but the lack of cohesiveness between the three aspects of the story. I love complicated and varied plots but I feel that these three aspects were not melded effectively. I had hoped that the mystery would be used as a way for the author to bring the main characters together or develop the characters but it did not. This added to my inability to connect with the characters as they were all one dimensional with little, if any, development. However, these problems were only slightly problematic and easily overlooked in light of the most disturbing aspect of the story. The most problematic portion of the story was the "relationship" between the male characters. One of the characters is the sire of the two younger vampires. He calls the younger vampires his sons throughout the story. I shuttered every time he did this as the younger vampires, while not his flesh and blood sons, were his lovers. The sexual scenes are not for the faint of heart as they generally involve three or four individuals. The sex was very explicit which generally does not bother me but the "familial" aspect made it difficult to enjoy the scenes. Overall, the story had amazing potential but the complications were too distracting.
