Captain Gabriella Markham, finds herself in a dark hold, with a moaning man and a pirate holding her captive. Could her day get any worse? It can. She is marooned on an island with the injured man, someone from her past, and confused as to why. Captain Diego Santa Cruz awakens to find himself forced into a boat that will maroon him, horribly wounded, with a woman he thought never to see again.

Alone on the island with Diego, Gabby works to heal his wounds. She has some time alone to wonder what fate has in store for them; she doesn't wish to die here. Diego doesn't like being weak, and is frustrated that he needs Gabby's help. They work together to find a way off the island, figure out who wants them out of the way, and rekindle what once was. With the help of Diego's partner, Iņigo Sebastiano they are rescued from the island, and once at home make plans to find those who put them there.

Ms. Nee starts out with action and keeps it coming. Her talented writing doesn't let you get bored, it keeps you wanting to know what's next. I really enjoyed the story line. It is a refreshing change from the normal high seas story, with the addition of a female captain. There is a reversal of roles here where Diego, the macho sea captain starts out helpless, and is rescued by the heroine. I like a strong female role and Gabby fits that description. She is bold, adventurous, compassionate, and at the same time vulnerable. Diego is a tough, proud man with a sensitive side. Both are strong leading characters which to my delight leads to some amusing, laugh out loud dialog between them. A fast paced enjoyable escapade with intrigue, adventure and long lost love. An easy to read story that keeps you involved. The cover art is beautiful and fits the book perfectly.
