Roxanne Strayhorn is one of the ten women left as semi-finalists of the television show To Marry the Millionaire. Hoping that he will pick her, she forces herself to get through the various tryouts involved in showing her assets off in order to catch his attention. Though she is an elementary school teacher, wanting to be the center of attention is not what she normally strives for in a social environment. Her plan is to give honest answers to the questions asked and wait for the result. Hopefully then all her problems will be solved. And problems she has.

Jacob Worthington Carpenter III is watching the activities geared to get him a wife and give the audience a show. Most of these women, though beautiful, were more empty headed than a balloons inside and that gets them crossed right off his little list. But one girl is rather intriguing

For Jake to finally find the love he so needs in his life was such a warm part of this story. I must confess the reiteration of certain things bothered me a bit at first until it dawned on me that the focus naturally is that the two are so uncertain in how the other feels and need to have these doubts settled in their minds. Just to have the other say once that something doesnt bother him or her, wont take that doubt away; it must be confirmed, again. And the author has handled this situation very well, I realized, the uncertainty in Jake and Roxanne is very well depicted. This is truly a story about love, and the meaning of family.
