| Plain and simple Valerie Adamson is broke and running out of options. Her world came crumbling the day she found out her ex-husband had been spending money as hard as he could and put them in bankruptcy. Then he casually walked out leaving her to pick up the pieces. With nothing left Valerie starts hunting a job that will provide room and board just to keep a roof over her head. She gets lucky when she lands a job as a live-in nanny for her best friends' brother-in-law. It doesn't take long to give her heart to little Jessica, but fights her emotions when it comes to Jessica's dad. Knowing she has nothing to fall back on Valerie's mind tells her to keep the relationship with George Richards professional. But her heart definitely has other plans.
George Richards is a doting father that has taken care of his daughter since the day she was born. When Jessica's mother showed no interest in the baby and then asked for a divorce when Jessica was two weeks old, he happily obliged. George is skeptical when his brother contacts him about a friend that needs a job, but after seeing how great Valerie is with Jessica he gives her the job. He soon finds out that Valerie is perfect not only for his baby girl but for him also. But can their new love survive all the lies and misunderstandings surrounding them? Rida Allen has done an exquisite job of bringing life to her characters and this storyline. Not one time while reading Truth and Lies did I have a hard time believing this story. It deals with issues that face real life people everyday. And I absolutely adored the way she made Jessica and family values a very intricate part of the book. It's a perfect modern day romance that I will gladly read again.
