| Sean Sutherland has lived for three hundred years as a vampire hoping that, someday, he will find a true love who will remove the curse that made him what he is. All it takes is three little words. Will Bridget Sinclair be the one to say them? She's a faery who aggravates him one minute and is all he could ever want in a lover the next.
Marly Mathews has written a humorous, suspenseful tale of villagers turned vampire slayers. They all know of Lord Sean’s affliction, love him still. Ms. Mathews does a great job building her characters. Bridget, Sean, Grace, Father Clancy, Mary, Rupert, Iris all come alive under her pen. The evil vampire Octavia will do whatever she can to punish Sean and his family for killing her only true love. She’s a nasty villain who can hold a grudge forever if she wants to. She’s getting impatient though. She has to get Sean to take blood from a human before anyone says the magic words that will reverse the curse and put him out of her reach. The romance is sweet even when Bridget and Sean have their verbal battles, maybe especially when the two butt heads and hearts. Each tries to hide their deepest secret from the other. In a small rural village where everyone knows what goes on almost before it’s done, that‘s a challenge. Adding a faery who flunked training and a band of elves to the warriors who can fight also adds to the people who can let the cats out of the bag. This is a fun tale with some suspenseful twists from beginning to end. Ms. Mathews writes some of the best dialogue and scenarios around. Sean is such a powerful but loveable guy I just couldn’t help hoping with the rest of the village that Bridget would just say the words and save them both from heartache. It’s a great book with a nice little twist at the end to make it even better.
