| Together Emma and Becky own Wallflower, a store featuring the talents of local artisans. Neither woman is conventionally beautiful; Emma is a bit too short and curvy, and Becky is a little too thin for some people’s tastes. Emma has always had a crush on Max Cannon, who has just moved back to town, but beautiful and obnoxious Livia has her eye on him, determined to get him back. Max is back in town to establish his practice and take up his duties as Alpha of the local Pride. He is surprised and happy to find that curvy, funny Emma is his mate. Now he has to claim her and tell her what he is and hope that she is tough enough to deal with Pride members like Livia.
I really enjoyed this story. The author has managed to combine a very hot romance with humor and some pretty scary shape shifters. Emma and Becky are great characters. Neither is conventionally beautiful and have been picked on by pretty people like Livia and her friend Belinda for their whole lives, but have overcome insecurity to become successful business owners. Emma is funny and witty and is great at putting the uber-alpha Max and his buddy in their place. Max is one sexy puma and his beta Simon runs him a close second. It is fun watching the two lady’s men try to win over their mates. They are definitely not smooth all the time. The author does an excellent job of creating a town where shape shifters and humans coexist peacefully for the most part. The masquerade ball at the end of the story is pivotal to the plot and ties up all the loose ends in a particularly satisfying and exciting way. I can’t wait to see what happens between Simon and Becky.
