| Ambrose and his twin brother Anthony are the talk of the ton every year; and every year they pick one debutante to pay attention to and make her the debutante of the season. For Cordelia, this is her first and probably her last season because of the scandal created by her father and the fact that she was an indentured servant to pay off his debts. She just tries to blend in with the plants and walls of every ball she attends. However, this year Anthony chooses Cordelia for Ambrose to turn into the debutante of the season and Ambrose readily accepts this challenge. But as time goes by Ambrose forgets about the bet and tries to find a way to make Cordelia his wallflower forever.
At first Ambrose felt sure that this season would be like all the others, but when he starts paying attention to Cordelia and she shows her passionate nature and quick wit, he starts to develop feelings for her. Cordelia knows that Ambrose is only helping her to find a match, but soon she realizes that all the other gentlemen don’t compare to the one who holds her heart. This story kept me going back for more. I could not put it down for long because I wanted to know what would happen next and how Ambrose would deal with the situation once the bet came to light. It also showed how fast gossip can make it around a ballroom and destroy a life in the process. Overall, this was a funny and compassionate story that I will read again.
