Watch Me Sleep

Ana Star
Paranormal erotic romance

Judith is a nursing student working her way through school. She's a loner concentrating on work, school and getting by. On the way home one night she's rescued from an attacker by a vampire. That night and every night after her rescuer protects her through the night as she sleeps. They never talk, never share anything about themselves. Still, he gives her a gift of ruby ear rings and she's determined to make their one year anniversary special for them both.

Ana Star has written a story that's sad but strangely sweet at the same time. Judith has a façade of a life. She’s employed, in school, gets along but no one knows her. She has no social life, has separated from family and life. Since the story is told in the first person we don’t know if anyone cares, she just tells us what she’s done. The only one who seems to pique her interest is the watchful vampire. He doesn’t seem to have a life either. We’re told she smells blood on him, knows he feeds on people, is jealous of them, especially the women. When she admires his ruby cross he leaves ruby ear rings for her. That’s the sweet part of the sadness.

Ms. Star has written a love story without dialogue except for one sentence. Two people have come to love one another without touch, without words, but we can feel their love. This is unique and I found it to be a good read.
