Since the death of his friend Roger seven years ago, Lord Gabriel Sharpe has spent his time accepting race after dangerous race to deal with his guilt. But when Roger's sister decides to challenge him to a race on the same course her brother was killed on, Gabriel sees her as the perfect solution to a completely different situation. His grandmother has made an ultimatum to him and his sibling that if they don't settle down and marry in a year's time, they will lose their inheritance. So it makes perfect sense to him that she can help him in that area. However, Virginia absolutely refuses when she finds out about his inheritance. Now, determined to marry her, is he willing to give it all up and find a way to live without his inheritance just for her? Will she have him?
This is one of the books from Ms Jeffries' Hellions of Halstead Hall series. While each is about a different sibling and how they deal with their grandmother's ultimatum, they can each easily be read on their own. But be forewarned that it's just going to make you want to read the rest. I have really loved this series. The Sharpes are an amazing set of siblings, not to mention their grandmother, and this book didn't disappoint me at all. Virginia is another one of Ms. Jefferies' strong independent women that she writes so well, while Gabriel is another of her dashing rakes. And yet they all manage to be their own distinct characters that we fall in love with, and Gabriel and Virginia are no different. Not to mention the chemistry between them is electric which they fight to the reader's delight. All around this is another fun book by Ms. Jeffries!
