Alwyn would have his vengeance. His wife and unborn child were cut down without mercy. He plans to kidnap the killer's mistress. But from the beginning things are not what they seem. Instead of a worldly woman, Milisent is shy and frightened. Unknown to Alwyn, she is Gilbert's sister not his mistress. Her father gifted her with the right to choose her own husband and her brother has been pressuring her to marry the cruel Baron de Bain. Neither Alwyn nor Milisent can deny the attraction they feel. Betrayal abounds and and enemies threaten from all sides as the lovers give into their passion. Part of Ms. Knight's Song series, this story tells of Alwyn, brother to Arthur (Battlesong) and Rhianna( Heartsong). Alwyn is honorable man coping with a tragedy that consumes him. Although he kidnaps Milisent, Alwyn is a gentle man and almost immediately regrets his decision. The two of them are sweet together. Secondary characters are wonderfully written and really add to the story. There's enough action to keep the plot moving and enough emotion and steamy encounters to keep it interesting. I enjoyed witnessing the evolution of Alwyn and Milisent's relationship from both sides. This is old fashioned romance and knight in shining armor stuff. The villain is evil, the lady courageous, the hero gallant and there's even a chance of redemption for those who seek it. I can highly recommend this and any of the 'Song' books as a wonderful way to spend a cold winter evening. Also, I do hope that there's a story for Arvel coming sometime soon. Overall rating:
