| In 1789 Ireland, Brenna McIntyre’s life did not show much promise. Her mother, Dara, had been married to Charles McIntyre for ten long years. During this time, Charles had used her as a punching bag and constantly left bruises all over her body. She never complained to her mother because she was trying to keep Charles from projecting his fury upon her. The final straw for Brenna was when Charles announced that he had betrothed her to Viscount Halstead, a man who was even meaner than her step-father.
Miraculously Brenna was saved from Halstead’s attempted rape by three men who not only dealt with him, but kidnapped her. She was scared, but had no where to turn. After arriving in Dublin at the Valmont Inn, her mother appeared. She had paid Jackson and Radcliffe to steal her away from this horrible prospect of marriage. This kidnapping/rescue situation changed quickly when Dara demanded that Tony Radcliffe, captain of the ship, Pegasus, marry her daughter and take her to America with him. Ms. Kimberly Nee created a suspenseful plot with a beautifully executed love story. Even though Tony was adamantly opposed to this marriage, he fell in love with her on their journey from Ireland to America. Brenna had a major character flaw since she was so intimidated because of her years of abuse. Tony had little patience with her at first but his domineering attitude eased up dramatically as he fell more in love. The sensual action was intense and attention-grabbing. It was not, however, distasteful. The trip across the sea was full of action but the action did not stop when they reached the American soil. The storyline presented here was beautifully written and spell-binding. I had a hard time putting this book down. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a love story with suspense spliced throughout. Conflict was another serious issue because I didn’t even tell you about Tony’s at-home girlfriend, Charlotte. You will be glad to read this story.
