Matt Collins has been in awe of Phil Fink for five long years. Though he has never met Phil till now, he has a rapport with him that no other programmer in his company has. Matt thinks Phil is extremely intelligent but a nerd. Nevertheless, Phil seems to be just the person Matt can collaborate with for his next project. Only Matt is not so sure that the people-avoiding Phil will agree to meet him and work this out. Still, he manages to railroad his way into Phil’s home. But Matt is in for a shock. Can he live and work with the real Phil Fink?

Phyllis Ann Fink, in five long years, has been one of the men. The others have always assumed her to be a man and she has never bothered to correct them. After all, business has no connection with her gender. But when her biggest client wants her to work with one of their programmers, Phil is very apprehensive. Yes, she has known Matt for sometime, but the problem is that he thinks she is a guy. She is not sure she will be able to handle his intrusion into her professional as well as personal life. Moreover she has problems and insecurities of her own to deal with. Will Matt be a painful imposition or a pleasant distraction?

You Have Been Disconnected is a pleasant combination of the software industry and romance. The terminology and the chat scripts that Rida Allen uses in her story make for an appealing alliance. Phyllis as the smart but scared woman gains anybody’s vote right from the start. The charming and devastating Matt makes a really wonderful companion for Phyllis. The confusion and astonishment when Matt discovers that Phil is a woman is described with humour and the reader is guaranteed to enjoy it. . The wild passion between the two is burning hot to say the least. Rida Allen’s attempt of a delightful romance with all the usual twists but unusual computers is a thorough success. I would definitely recommend this mixed bag of emotions as a wonderful read.
