Frustrated by the lack of clues and even more discouraged by the lack of help from his agency and his brother’s, special agent Maximilian Stone sets out in search for his kidnapped brother. First, he must solve the mystery of Samantha, the intriguing woman sleeping in his bed. Is there a connection between Snow Bunny and his missing FBI brother? Or was she brought in by a darker enemy to destroy Max before he can find them?

Local author uses N.H. mountains as setting for romantic thriller

The majestic New Hampshire mountains are the setting for Salem author Denise Robbins' new romantic thriller Killer Bunny Hill that incorporates the latest technological advances in a page-turning tale of suspense.

Robbins, a software engineering manager by day, integrates her knowledge of computers and technology into all of her romantic suspense novels. In Killer Bunny Hill, the plot revolves around the relationship of manmade diamonds, computers and laser weapons, giving readers a glimpse into the breakthrough science of nanotechnology.

"Nanotechnology is fascinating and is going to affect us immensely in the future," Robbins said. "It is being hailed as one the greatest technological breakthroughs because it touches everything."

Robbins also incorporates a little known fact of underground tunnels in New Hampshire in her plot. "The New Hampshire mountains are the perfect location to combine beauty, romance and intrigue," she said. "I can't imagine a better setting."

In Killer Bunny Hill, a wrong turn down the Bunny Hill hurls the main character into a chilling race against a killer's bullet. The book is set for a July release and can be purchased through the publisher at http://www.lldreamspell.com/KillerBunnyHill.htm.

Robbins is also busy promoting her current release, It Happens in Threes, which involves one of the characters using computers to launder money under the guise of upgrading their network security. About Denise Robbins

Denise Robbins, born and raised in the Midwest, migrated to Florida, and finally settled down to her home in New Hampshire that she shares with her kittens Mischief and Mayhem. From her back deck, she sits outside, listens as the old roller coaster from the local amusement park inches its way up the wooden structure on its clanking chains, and waits to hear the kids scream in terror and delight. The best mental therapy a girl could ask for. The long, cold winter nights in New Hampshire provide the serenity and motivation to write excitement into the night. After twenty years in the computer technology industry, Denise decided to use that experience and her passion for mysteries and thrillers to write her first computer-thriller romantic-suspense novel, IT HAPPENS IN THREES released January 2009. Her second novel, KILLER BUNNY HILL, is scheduled for release July 2009. Look for her third techno-romantic thriller, CONNECT THE DOTS, in 2010. In addition to writing, Denise enjoys scuba diving (only in warm water), snowboarding, and playing in her garden.

A note from Denise...

An Interview with Denise Robbins
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Denise, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Please tell us about your featured book, Killer Bunny Hill.

DR: Killer Bunny Hill is what I like to call a techno-romantic thriller. It combines my love of technology and romance into an action-packed romantic suspense. Samantha, shot while snowboarding lands on a stranger's doorstep. Is he her protector or her killer? Maximilian does not have time for a wounded snowbunny, even if she is the hottest female he has laid eyes on in a very long time. His goal is to find his brother. Both in search of something or someone they end up teaming together to unravel the mystery of Sam's amnesia, Max's missing brother, and staying out of the shooter's sight.

HH: Your heroine is shot while snowboarding and loses her memory. Your hero takes her in and tries to protect her. Where did you get the idea for this thrilling story? <g>

DR: I started writing Killer Bunny Hill on a flight out to Seattle from my home state of New Hampshire. I hadn't planned on writing, but for some reason, I was compelled to boot up my laptop. As I flew cross-country, the poor passengers around me had to listen to me talk and laugh at my computer and invisible characters. At the end of my flight, I had the first chapter completed and knew all about my hero and heroine. What I did not know was the plot.

Doing some research on computer technology for my day job, I typed in the keywords 'computers and diamonds'. The next thing you know, I could not stop reading. I had to find out more. You have to read the book to understand.

HH: What do you like best about Samantha Spenser and how do you relate to her?

DR: Oh! I love the fact that despite Samantha's lack of memory she somehow knows her instinctive nature. I relate to Samantha because she is tough and smart and a real go-getter. Just like me! <Big Grin>

HH: What do you like about Maximilian Stone and why is he more than a match for Samantha?

DR: First, Maximilian's name says it all. It evokes an image of a strong, dark-haired guy who is comfortable in his own skin and who knows the important things in life, family. They have both lost someone, but what they gain together is so much more than either of them had expected and better than they could imagine.

HH: Your background is in software engineering management and you like to weave that into your fiction works. How do you do so in a way that's enlightening for the reader without overpowering the story?

DR: This is an excellent question that I have never been asked. Computer stuff can be very dry and boring, take it from me. What I do is take technology and introduce the readers to it in small pieces so that it is part of the mystery or part of the solution of the mystery. I take what is or could be a real scenario and break it down so my characters show you just enough to make you understand and at the same time get curious. Wait until you find out about nanotechnology in Killer Bunny Hill. I'll give you a hint - Diamonds aren't just a girl's best friend.

HH: What can you tell us about the forthcoming Connect the Dots?

DR: My father says Connect the Dots is his favorite yet. In Connect the Dots, I introduce the readers to the world of Human Intelligence, CIA, and black sites. I became so enthralled with the research I did for this story that I literally called friends and family every other day and said, "OH MY GOSH! Did you know. . ." Or "I just found out. . ."

HH: What else do you have in the works for lucky readers?

DR: My current WIP is Never Tempt Danger. In this story, I took a technology idea I read off the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency) website and ran with it.

Also, crafted along the way is story number five. This one, which currently has no title stemmed from a creative writing prompt I posted on my blog. The prompt was "When she discovered. . ." Everyone started with that and wrote whatever came to mind. The very strange thing that popped out of my head turned into what I currently refer to as "Pink Undie" story. ;-) Figure that one out!

HH: What goals have you set for yourself at this point in your career?

DR: I am a huge fan of lists, at least I used to be, so yes, I actually do have goals. I even posted some of them on my blog for the world to see and to hold me to it. My current goal is to finish my two novels in progress. I would love to get my children's story published. Just as books I have read influenced me, I hope that my techno-romantic thrillers intrigue and entertain readers enough that they go research some of the things I have shared and learn more.

HH: What do you enjoy reading?

DR: Just about everything. Okay, that is not entirely true. I love fiction! For years, my reading consisted of true crime novels. Then those authors could not produce enough so I read mysteries. Once again, I ran out of stuff to read too fast. One day I was at the bookstore and saw this book with a cool title that sounded like a mystery but turned out to be a romantic suspense. HOOKED! After that, I discovered romance.

On the serious side, I encourage people to read, try new authors, new genres, and just plain explore. I have this thing (for lack of a better term) on my blog called Book-A-Week Challenge. The idea is that each week I introduce a new book for readers to try out. It could be an author I have never read or an author I admire, but either way, we read at least 1 book a week. With me leading the challenge, the readers don't have to go to the store and search for a book to jump off the shelf at them. Been there, done that. And they are not reading the book alone. I am reading it along with them. At the end of each week, if I can get the author to agree to it, I post an interview with them. This is an added incentive for readers to read the book because now they get to know a little more about the author behind the words and maybe even ask some questions. Reading is FUN!

HH: What are you doing this summer?

DR: Summer for me means being outdoors as much as possible. I will be hanging out on my deck finishing Never Tempt Danger and listening to the kids screaming on the old roller coaster from the amusement park behind my house. I will play in my garden growing lilies, hydrangeas, and fruit. I hope to eat fresh pears off my very own trees for the first time. Beyond that, I enjoy hanging out with my two Persian kittens (Mischief and Mayhem). They are great inspiration!

HH: Thank you!
